Why Does My Cat Scratch So Much?
Posted by Jeanne on March 2, 2009

Scratching is a territorial instinct where cats mark and establish their turf. They mark their domains with more than just visible signs of claw marks. There are scent glands in caw’s paws that leave a special scent on their territory.
Scratching also helps keep your cat stay in shape. He is actually getting the exercise that he needs. When he claws, he is able to stretch, pull, and work the muscles in his front quarters.
He also scratches because it feels good!
If you want your cat to stop scratching your furniture, you need to invest in a good scratching post.
